There are jewish families in Argentina with surname FINGERMAN

In the Jewish cemetery of La Tablada, Buenos Aires, is buried some people with this surname.

I am looking for the meaning of this name for few years now. The most close I got to was the assumption that the origin of the name is of that the person that was reading the Torah was called a Fingerman for using the Yad (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yad) which has a pointed finger.

There have been Fingermans in Ukrain and Moldova befor WW2, most of them died in the Holocaust. The name is German, as most Ashkenasi names, means Fingerman, my grandmother was a Fingerman. There must be connection to family in Argentina and USA but i have to researche.
