Comments: From what I know, Voss is a common German name meaning fox, and not necessarily Jewish. Our family is also German, though we have no relatives left there. Our branch moved to Palestine and then New York to flee the Nazis. We have a relative in Israel who Hebraicized the name by changing it to Paz.
Name: Helen Wilson
Comments: My great grandma’s maiden name is Voß - they are a German Jewish family that were in America Kansas and New York that went to Uk. My great grandfather was called Louis Meyer Voß and his daughters married to husbands in India and South Africa - as well as my grandma who stayed in uk. Maybe there are distant relatives out there!

Name: Shirley Voss
Comments: I am trying to corroborate a story my Grandfather, William Voss, told me several times when I was small. That our name was originally “Von Voss, which denoted a nobility of sorts, land owners perhaps, in Germany. Also that some (all?) of our ancestors were Jewish. My grandfather was not Jewish but Protestant Christian. I did a DNA test from Ancestry.com, but it only said my ancestors were from Germany.
Does anyone know how I could prove or disprove my Grandfathers stories, particularly the Jewish ancestry? Any advice or leads would be much appreciated! Thank you... Shirley Voss
