The vast majority of Argentine Jews are descended from immigrants who arrived from Europe.
These ashkenazic Jews migrated from small towns or shtetels of Poland, Lithuania, Russia, Germany, Romania or Ukraine, leaving behind most of their Jewish relatives.
After two or three generations, those Jewish families lost track of their relatives, having been saved from the war, emigrated to other countries like USA, England or Australia.

Mark Axworthy | The maiden name of my mother was Gollcher (double "L"). Sometimes it has also been spelt Golcher or Goucher. According to our family researches, it is traceable to the Midlands of England around Leicester or Nottingham (I forget which) before 1600. They were Puritans who fled to Leiden with the Pilgrim Fathers and some followed them to the Americas in the 1620s. They had apparently originally been locksmiths in England but adapted their skills to become locksmiths for muskets in the New World, because the Gollcher lock is know to have been used on Kentucky rifles in the Eighteenth Century. We always assumed (without any evidence) that the El Salvadoran Golchers were descended from this branch. |
